    I'm a history buff so this one was right up my alley.ġ960: The Making of the President: Same creator as Twilight Struggle, some similar mechanics, but I found this one to be more approachable. The mechanics and theme synergize perfectly.

    Love this game, but it is complex and a little slow. A lot of the strategy is deducing what your opponent is capable of and taking calculated risks with your resources (to simplify it, a lot of the plays you make benefit both you and your opponent in different ways). The cards you play represent various historical events. There's a great PC version on Steam, but IMO the game loses a lot of it's charm when you don't have that board right in front of you and you're not face-to-face with your opponent. It's widely considered one of the best two player games out there, but it's kinda clunky and appeals more towards competitive players. Players face each other as either the USA or USSR and fight for prestige over the course of the Cold War (unless someone starts a nuclear war, which ends the game and the person who started it loses).
